In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory- Ephesians 1:13-14
In the previous devotional, I stated that Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the Cross was the purchasing price for the redemption of mankind from sin. As believers, we don't stop at the knowledge that Christ died and rose for us, we must realize that when He died, we died with Him. And when He rose, we rose with Him.
Romans 6:4 (NIV)
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
We were buried with him through baptism into death and now, we are risen with Him into a new life. Hallelujah! Know that this text refers to a spiritual baptism which is that when Christ died, we died with Him and when He rose, we rose with Him into a new life. The next question to ask is, "What did He die to?" His death was a death to sin.
Romans 6:10 (NIV)
THE DEATH HE DIED, HE DIED TO SIN once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
Oh, glory! Hallelujah! The death He died, He died to sin! And you partook of that death. That means you also died to sin! Hallelujah! That is why Romans 6:14 says that sin no longer has dominion over you! The sin nature has been taken away and now you have God's nature in you because you are His possession. You are His own. You have God's Spirit in you which causes you to keep His statutes.
Now, we live in a generation where everywhere you turn to, it is as if sin is calling you forth. But in the midst of all these temptations, we must remind ourselves that sin no longer has dominion over us. And that we can't give into the temptations because we are God's own and there is no sin in God.
1 Corinthians 6:20
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
Once you believe in Jesus, you are no longer your own. You are now God's possession. And you must always reckon with this knowledge reminding yourself that you are to glorify God in all you do.
After the statement 'you are bought with a price' is a colon. So the next statement which speaks about glorifying God in our bodies and spirit explains the responsibility being bought with a price entails.
So friend, when it seems like you are tempted remind yourself that you are bought with a price and that God has given you His Spirit which now resides in you to keep you from falling and giving into temptation. If you look at our text in verse 13, the 'b' part, it says that after we believed, we were sealed with the Holy Spirit.
He now lives in us to keep us and would always prompt us and provide a way out of temptation. It is up to us to respond. Friend, always respond to His nudges because sin no longer has dominion over you. You don't have to give in to sin anymore. No! You are dead to sin. You are a new Creature in Christ, you are God's own.
Christ died to sin and you partook of that death therefore you are also dead to sin. Realize this truth that you are a new man in Christ. Let this be your consciousness. Keep renewing your mind with God's Word of who you are now in Christ and walk in the newness of life. Walk worthy of who you are now in Christ because you have the ability to. You have the Holy Ghost in you. Hallelujah!
SAY THIS: I am God's own. I am a new man in Christ. I am dead to sin, and I am alive to God. Sin no longer has dominion over me. My body is an instrument of righteousness. I live for God. I walk in the newness of life. Amen.
You are blessed. God loves you. Yes you!!!
